The face behind The Voice Within: Who am I?

Updated: Jun 16, 2022

The Voice Within is a candid voice that speaks admiration for the hand behind the words and the eyes behind the camera.

Dear reader,

I thought it's important to let the world know who I am before I start rambling about my views on books and films! I'm Koushiki. I am fortunate enough to study something most people in the world would just consider hobbies – Film Studies and Literature from the University of Essex, UK (childhood dream fulfilled!)

Yes, my uni has a massive library and LOVE it!

Where i come from:

A bit more background of where I come from: I am from Kolkata, India. I have travelled most of India – thanks to the wanderlust of my parents. I have been in the UK for almost 2 years now (still can’t believe.) I stared dreaming of the wide unknown world through films and books, and I often claim to understand ‘life’ more through the million forms of art!

What i like:

If it isn’t clear that I LOVE and appreciate all forms of art – it might be useful to mention that I love colouring. Recently I have become addicted to Mindful Colouring and my weapon of choice is sketch pens; however, I do dabble in water colouring and canvas painting. I love going to new places, exploring new cafes and being all touristy: the ultimate goal is to romanticise life, isn’t it? The pandemic situation did its due responsibility of curbing the traveller in me but now I am winning – I have been to an art gallery, theatre, film academy and museum in the last 2 months! Also another essential piece of knowledge: i love everything related to Coffee.

What my growing up was like:

You can assume I was a child who spent a lot of time alone and loved doing so. The last two years of my school life broke the previous me yet again helped someone new. I read a lot as a child - Ruskin Bond and Enid Blyton were my favourites but somewhere along the line when new exciting teenage stuff came around, the reader in me got lost; high school (not talking about the musical haha) taught me lessons. It is absolutely hilarious that I am trying to put into words what adulting is … but I have come a long way, learnt my lessons every day and grown every passing second.

What i believe in now:

As life becomes busier with new work, new people, new problems, new things to think about – one starts their old self or rather forgets that we are still the same people. This blog is probably one such effort, to hold on to the person, to actually listen to what they say, to be aware of far they have come and what they are capable of today. The voice within me is one who is aware of her dream, one who aspires, one who loves, one who reads, one who listens, one who sees, one who understands and finally one who speaks here.

What is The Voice Within:

As it mentions in the sub heading - books, films and everyday life. It will document my journey in the early stages of my career in the media industry, balancing work life and my passion. It might have writings on my filmmaking journey and includes reflections on events i attended in university. It will have occasional reviews, analysis and rants about films, books, art and might also include tips on adulting and personal development. It might also include recommendations of new places to go to - be in a cafe or a website. Thus, the possibilities are endless...

Thank you for reading. I know you. I appreciate you.

All my love.

K.
