Men? (2023)

In this experimental short, I delve into the intricate layers of men's mental health. Made within a tight 72-hour timeframe, this piece weaves together Rudyard Kipling's timeless poem If with my reflections on contemporary masculinity.

Proud to have created this for the University of Essex's Film Society as part of their 72-hour Film Challenge, celebrating #Movember, screening it during our society event, the Mini Film Festival.

In this quick piece, I have woven together glimpses of my daily life, seeking cinematic connections and finding beauty in the unexpected. It is a candid exploration, showcasing the beauty in ordinary moments.

As part of my ongoing commitment to pursue projects that excite me, I intentionally mask the part of me that craves 'perfection.' It's about trying and having fun, isn't it? Thus, this little project contributes to my continuous learning in filmmaking and editing. This experimental short film was entirely shot on my iPhone XS and edited using Premiere Pro, a tool I had never ventured into before. The making of this was an exploration in various ways, embracing the spontaneity of creation.

During the screening at my university's Soc event, the Mini Film Festival, there was an audience of enthusiastic twenty-somethings. The applause and appreciation from friends and others marked a significant moment – I truly felt the value of sharing my work with an audience. It reinforces the belief that there's immense beauty in imperfection and authenticity, capturing the essence of storytelling in its raw and unfiltered form.
